Long time no post, my neglected journal.

I am sitting here trying to figure what I will do for my next submission to the Static Fish comic book. And all I'm doing is mostly sitting. So here is my first submission from October. I need to finish the new one asap or I will be overloaded with new projects and will not get this luxury done.

I want to live in the place under the roof where I took this shot, but it's probably not the most practical choice... Far from campus and over my budget. The motorcycle ride would be great though and the view is fantastic. Another weekend and it's only harder to choose.

Kittiya just defended her dissertation on Monday, and the end to many years of research, and a few months of insane writing is here... At least until the next thing. She did well and all members seemed genuinely interested in her paper. I am still blown away that she was able to crank out 300 or so pages in a few months. I hope the help I offered was actually helpful. Now, it's time to turn our attention to 2 moves... Mine to Brooklyn and her's to New Orleans. Tomorrow is my last day at T. Rowe Price and now I must drop back into the pool of part-time, freelance work, while going to school. I hope there's stuff that fits into my schedule or maybe I can actually teach myself how to make some decent illustrations that I could sell. This is going to be a long summer.

Initial impressions of "Illinois" by Sufjan Stevens.

"Michigan" was one of my favorite albums of 2003 and I was waiting with anticipation for Illinois to drop. I've had it for a few days now, listened to it several times through and, although I can by no means give definitive comments, I'm ready to say a few things.

Illinois almost seems like it could have been recorded along with Michigan, as the songs have a very similar feel to them. This similarity is sometimes comforting or effective and other times off-putting as some of the melodies seem to be derivative or dumbed down versions of ones from Michigan (This manifests itself most strongly to me in some bland lyrics and melodies in a few of the songs). It works other times when a new song starts by building steam from a song on "M" and then goes off on its own fantastic direction. There are some great melodies peppered about, but, as of now, I don't feel it's as strong as "M." It fills up a whole CD and has 20+ songs, so it's going to take a while to digest it all. I am still excited about it though, so that's a good sign.
